GuruTribe Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how GuruTribe (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of the GuruTribe application and website (the “Service”), collects, uses, shares, and protects your information.

By creating an account or using GuruTribe, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

01Information we collect

Account & identity information

To create and secure your account, we collect:

Profile information

Information you choose to add to your profile, such as your name, a chosen avatar, your role (coach or student), and — for coaches — your coaching areas and biography.

What we collect from students

We collect less information from student accounts than from coach accounts. For a student, we hold your name and mobile number (which are often entered by the coach who enrols you), and your class activity — such as the classes you are enrolled in, your attendance, and fee records kept by your coach. Students sign in using their mobile number and a one-time password (OTP); we do not require students to provide a biography, coaching areas, or other optional profile details.

Activity & relationship information

Information generated as you use the Service, including the classes you create or join, your membership and enrolment status, class schedules, and attendance records.

Communications & feedback

If these features are enabled, we store in-app messages you send within a class, and any ratings or reviews you submit about a coach.

Notifications

In-app notifications generated for you (for example, when you are enrolled in a class or when a fee is updated).

Usage analytics

We collect basic usage events — such as which screens are opened and which actions are taken, along with a timestamp and your account identifier and role — to understand how the Service is used and to improve it. These analytics are processed on our own servers and are not shared with third-party advertising or analytics networks.

Technical information

When you use the Service, our servers may automatically record technical information such as your device’s IP address and basic request logs for security and troubleshooting. An authentication token is stored locally on your device to keep you signed in.

02Information coaches provide about students

GuruTribe allows a coach to enrol a student into a class by entering the student’s name and mobile number, before that student has created their own account. In that case:

03How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

04Our legal basis

We process your personal data on the basis of the consent you provide when you create an account and use the Service, and where necessary to provide the features you request, to protect the Service’s security, and to meet our legal obligations. You may withdraw consent as described in “Your rights & choices” below.

05Sharing & service providers

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks. We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the Service, and only to the extent needed:

ProviderPurposeData shared
Google (Sign-In)Authenticating sign-in when you choose “Sign in with Google”Google account email, name, and profile picture, provided by Google to us
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Mumbai regionHosting our servers and storing Service dataThe data described in this policy

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or us.

06Payments

GuruTribe does not process payments and does not collect or store any card, bank, or payment-instrument details. The Service only records fee information that you or your coach enter — such as fee amounts, due and paid status, and related notes — so that coaches and students can keep track of dues. Any actual payment happens outside the Service, directly between coach and student.

07Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If your account remains inactive for 12 months, we may delete it together with its associated personal data. The authentication token stored on your device expires after a period of inactivity and is refreshed when you sign in again. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

08Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including authentication controls and access restrictions. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

09Your rights & choices

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in the “Contact & grievances” section. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10Children’s privacy

GuruTribe may be used by students who are minors (under the age of 18), but only through and with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. Where a coach enrols a minor as a student, we rely on the enrolling adult having obtained the consent of the minor’s parent or legal guardian to share the minor’s information with us and to allow the minor to use the Service. We do not knowingly permit a minor to create an account independently without such consent, and we do not use a minor’s personal data for behavioural tracking or for targeted advertising. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child is using the Service or has provided us personal data without your consent, please contact us using the details below and we will take appropriate steps.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
